Dimetrodon

He lived 100 million years before Tyrannosaurus and pretty much did whatever he felt like doing. Or so the story goes. Also, did giant lizards have feelings?

This one’s body is made of walnut. The sail on his back is two sections of hard maple glued over a center of walnut, matching the body.

The legs are made from highly figured 4A quality roasted flame maple. Birds eye maple makes up the wheels and birch the pegs and axles. The finish is three coats of Tung oil, hand rubbed to a low luster.

When you roll him, the sail rises and falls, the lower jaw moves up and down in the classic nom-nom-I’m-hungry-and-I’m-going-to-eat-you motion, and the legs move with the wheels.

A cam attached to the rear axle rotates against the sail’s lower edge, and the lower jaw is attached to the sail. The legs are pegged to the wheels and all move together.
